What should a quinceañera invitation include?

Whichever tone you choose, every quinceañera invitation needs the same bones: who, what, when, where, and when to reply.

Her full name, front and center

The quinceañera is a formal presentation, and the invitation often prints her full name (first, middle and last) more formally than anyone says it at home. Let the name carry the weight; it’s her day.

List the Mass and the reception separately

If the day includes a Mass of Thanksgiving, give it its own line with its own time, then the reception with its address. Guests attending both need to plan the gap between them.

Honor the padrinos

Many families acknowledge the padrinos on the invitation: a line of gratitude, or the main padrinos by name. Where space runs out, the full list traditionally moves to the reception program.

Tease the traditions

The waltz, the changing of the shoes, the last doll, the surprise dance: naming one or two on the invitation tells guests a program is coming and makes the evening feel like the milestone it is.

Dress code in one line

“Formal” or “semi-formal” is enough. If the court of honor wears coordinated colors, some families ask guests to avoid that color. One short line settles it.

RSVP early for a big list

Quinceañera guest lists run long, and the hall and caterer both want firm numbers. Ask for replies three to four weeks out and a one-click reminder chases the guests who have not replied.

Keep planning

Where the wording goes next: designs, guides and the rest of the library.

Frequently asked questions

Wording etiquette for quinceañera invitations, answered plainly.

What do you write on a quinceañera invitation?
Seven things: the hosts (usually her parents), her full name, the milestone (her fifteenth birthday), the Mass time and church if guests are invited to it, the reception time and venue, the dress code, and an RSVP-by date. A line honoring the padrinos is traditional where space allows.
Do you list the padrinos on a quinceañera invitation?
It’s traditional but optional. Many families name the main padrinos on the invitation as a public thank-you, and print the full list of sponsors in the reception program instead. If padrinos contributed significantly, some acknowledgment somewhere is expected. The invitation is the most visible place to give it.
Should the invitation include both the Mass and the reception?
Yes, when guests are invited to both. Each gets its own line with its own time and location, so families can plan the afternoon between them. If the Mass is intimate and the party is the open invitation, print the reception only and share Mass details personally.
When should quinceañera invitations be sent?
Six to eight weeks before the celebration: quinceañera guest lists are long, families travel, and the hall wants numbers early. Court of honor invitations go out months earlier, since damas and chambelanes commit to rehearsals and fittings long before the day itself.
